HISTORY OF VRSCET

Rapid dissemination of scientific principles and its vast exploitation through inventions have triggered tremendous impact on the socio-economic behavior of our country. However, the needs for more resources and their meticulous contributions have become vital to face the confronting socio economic behavior of the country. By inculcating the educational and professional experience to the resources through innovative applied research, a well developed economic structure can be established in our country. Keeping this as a mission, V.R.S. College of Engineering and Technology has been established in a rural area and provides intellectual and career oriented professional education through various disciplines. V.R.S College of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 1994 under the aegis of S.P.S. Educational trust. The college is functioning with the approval of Government of Tamil Nadu and All India Council for Technical Education and affiliation of Anna University, Chennai. It has been accredited by NAAC, earlier by NBA and Recertified for ISO 9001:2008 by TUV SUD South Asia. It has been managed by Board of Governors with Mrs.Vijaya Muthuvannan as its Chairperson and Mr.S.R.Ramanathan as Secretary and Correspondent. Mr.N.Muthuvannan is Director-Board of Governors and Er.M.Saravanan looks after entire administration of the college.

INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES

A gateway to success, the college is now set on long – range planning to enlarge and enrich its programmes and activities to empower the youth who aspire to become successful engineers, scientists and managers. The college offers five UG courses and one PG Programmes. The college has completed 28 years of dedicated service to the people of Tamil Nadu and other states in the field of Technical Education. The College has succeeded in continuous updation of adequate infrastructure facilities in terms of class rooms, laboratories, equipments, workshops, computing facilities, library, sports[both indoor and outdoor], fully equipped hostels with healthy and hygienic mess, transportation, medical facilities, communication, reprographics, treated hygienic water facilities, upgraded generator facilities, sophisticated Wi-Fi internet facilities at 200 Mbps – provided for academic, self learning and research work, guest rooms etc. The required specifications of the laboratories and all kinds of infrastructures are being updated continuously. The College has been awarded by Anna University, Chennai, (www.annauniv.edu) with the following marks based on our College infrastructure facilities and staff strength: Civil – 84.5%, CSE-81.3%, EEE-83.1%, ECE-82.7%, Mech-92.0%, IT-79%.

LIBRARY

The Central Library is functioning in a spacious place of 8,800 sq.m., with open access system, which provides more sophistication to the learning community. The Library proudly possesses 31,718 volumes of books in 14,079 titles, 56 numbers of National journals and 5 numbers of magazines. Moreover, we have signed MOU with DELNET [Developing Library Network, New Delhi], which facilitates access with 587 both National and International Journals through its web portal.

FACULTY

Our staff members are trained by WIPRO and following MISSION 10X – an active learning methodology to deliver class room lectures, which have given a new dimension in the teaching-learning process. Our staff members are being invited for delivering technical guest lectures by neighborhood engineering and polytechnic colleges. Our staff members are attending various faculty development programmes, workshops, seminars etc. in other technical institutions. In turn, the knowledge gained in those programmes is being disseminated to our staff and students in the form of seminars. The teaching staff members are encouraged by the Management to go for Ph.D. programmes. At present, 07 staff from various departments are pursuing Ph.D.in reputed universities. As part of the staff welfare development activities, to appreciate and encourage the staff members towards their research activities, the management honors the staff members with Rs. 5,000/- and Rs. 2,500/- as cash reward for their publications in Annexure I and II journals respectively. The best performers in Anna University Examinations among teaching staff members are appreciated with Gold rings worth Rs.7,000/-. The heads of the departments, who have worked meticulously to uplift their department results are appreciated with gold rings worth Rs.7,000/-. The best and better performers among the teaching staff members in special counseling are awarded with Rs.2,500/- and Rs.2,000/- respectively.

APPRECIATIONS TO STUDENTS

As part of the students’ development activities, the students who have passed the semester examinations in the first attempt are being appreciated in the form of Appreciation certificate. The students who have scored first and second marks in the University examinations in each class are being appreciated with Gold and Silver medals respectively along with the appreciation certificates in the Annual day function. The students who score first and second mark in their course are being appreciated with Gold and Silver medals respectively along with the appreciation certificates in the graduation day. The students who score more than 90% of marks in Anna University examinations are being awarded with Gold ring worth Rs.7, 000/- in the annual day. To appreciate and encourage the students, who win prizes in paper presentation and project contests in other college state level and national level technical symposiums, a cash award of 50% of cash prizes won in the events are being given to students.In internal paper presentation contests, the first prize, second prize and third prize winners are appreciated with Rs.1,500/-, Rs.1,000/- and Rs. 500/- respectively. Mini project and Major Project contests are being conducted to motivate students and the innovative projects are judged and recommended for awards by experts from industries, reputed colleges etc. A sum of Rs.5,000/- as first prize, Rs.3,000/- as second prize and Rs.2,000/- as third prize are being given for Major Project contest and a sum of Rs.2,000/- as first prize, Rs.1,500/- as second prize and Rs.1,000/- as third prize are being given for Mini Project contest. Best All Rounder award in the form of a trophy and a certificate is being given every year to the best outgoing student in appreciation of his/her outstanding performance.

UNIVERSITY RANKS

The college students had proved their potential and succeeded with University ranks such as 14th rank in 1998, 4th rank in 1999, 1st rank in 2001, 12th rank in 2003 and 7th rank in 2004 of University of Madras examinations and 3rd & 6th ranks in 2008, 19th rank in 2013, 9th, 10th, 36th & 41st ranks in 2014, 1st, 15th & 25th ranks in 2015, 5th & 8th ranks in 2016 and 10th rank in 2017 in Anna University, Chennai examinations.

PROFESSIONAL CHAPTER ACTIVITIES

Our college has been awarded with BEST ISTE CHAPTER AWARD in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry section during 2010 & 2014, BEST ISTE FACULTY ADVISOR AWARD in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry section during 2011 & 2015, BEST ISTE STUDENT AWARD in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry section during 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 , 2017,2018,2019&2020 and BEST ISTE SECRETARY AWARD in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry section during 2013. SAE, IETE, ISHRAE, ICIACT, CII, CSI & MSI Chapters are also functioning for the benefit of students respectively. Entrepreneurship Development Cell of our college is organizing entrepreneur awareness and development programmes with Department of Science & Technology’s sponsorship.

TRAINING AND PLACEMENT

The Training and Placement cell is functioning in our College. Our College has signed Memorandum of Understanding with nearly 40 companies till the academic year 2017-18 to provide placement opportunities, In-plant Trainings, Industrial Visits, Internships, Projects, Research Works etc. Additional technical training programmes are being conducted to update the knowledge of students with recent technologies to enhance their employability with the help of various Organizations. Aptitude and Soft skill training programmes are also being conducted for all the students to improve their employability skills. We have a very good consistent placement track record in past years. In the academic year 2016-17, 254 students were placed in various Industries. Our students have been placed in companies like TATA Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Accenture, Cognizant, HCL Comnet, Wipro, Rane Brake Lining Limited, Mitsuba Sical India Private Limited, S.H. Electronics, Amar Prakash Developers, CSS Corp, Axis global Automation, Sure Soft, KKM Soft, Mascons ECC, Star Ready Mix, CADD Centre, Shree R.R. Machine Tools, Eureka Forbes, Rifluxyss, Reliance Communication, Kaivalya Tech Service, Itian Info Labs, Soft Square, Axis Global Automation, Aveon Infotech, Studio Q Branding Solution, Sharp Design Technologies, Roadmap IT Solutions, Scope Technology, SNY Autotech, Deccan I Services, Springs Structural Engineering, etc.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CELL

The Research and Development Cell of V.R.S. College of Engineering and Technology is established to promote research activities. The various programs are nurtured through academic research and sponsored research funded by National organizations and industry. The objectives of the R&D are Mobilizing funds from various funding agencies for conducting FDP/Seminar/Workshop etc., Aiming significant number of patents through research in newly emerging areas of engineering including all multidisciplinary fields, Getting funds from well-known funding agencies, each department takes interest in submitting their proposal regularly, Motivating faculties and students to publish their papers in referred journals, Encouraging students to exhibit their projects at leading expo, Signing of MOU with industries and institutes for projects and training, Sponsoring faculty members to attend conferences, seminars, workshop etc., Promoting Institute –Industry Instruction, Conducting researches that contribute to the development of human resources who can play a leading and core role in society, Arranging summer and winter training schools for faculties and students, Deputing faculties to institutes as resource person and jury for R & D oriented seminar, conference, workshop and project Expo, Conducting project expo for school students every year, Ensuring quality research through standards. Funded programmes sponsored by various government organizations such as Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, CSIR-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Department of Atomic Energy, Science City – Ministry of Higher Education etc. are conducted periodically.

ALUMNI

Alumni Association has been formed and it keeps track of past students’ career growth. The passed out students are invited every year to Alumni Meet, Organized during December / January at our College Campus. They have been given facility in the college website to enroll them as member of Alumni Association of our College. Best Alumni awards are being given away to the achievers in the Alumni Meet events. Moreover, the members of Alumni association often visit the institute and share their knowledge and experience with our staff and students. Additional knowledge and skill development activities are being carried out based on their suggestions, given during their visits. Alumni students are invited frequently to share their experience and knowledge with the students which help them to update their skills according the current industry expectations.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Our college is known for its social responsive activities like NSS Camps, YRC & RRC Programmes, Anti tobacco awareness programme for public, Road safety week conducted by distributing reflecting stickers, Helping widows by donating sewing machines, Flood and cyclone relief to nearby villages, Continuing Education Programs (CEP) for Police and Revenue officials, Dental and eye check for Government school students, Distributing educational aids to Government school children, conducting TNPSC and TNUSRB Examinations, Safety Awareness Program in association with Initiative Mission(SIM) at Toll gates. Known for its excellent infrastructure and facilities for learning, the college has consistently registered impressive academic performance. The above achievements stand as testimony to our efforts and growth.
